The nunnery was established in 1979 and serves as a spiritual and educational center with the primary aim of offering nuns the opportunity to receive a complete Buddhist education, similar to that provided to monks. The Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery is one of only a few nunneries that manufactures incense which is sold to support the operations of the nunnery.
